Redneck butthole

I do not like Toby Keith. Seriously can't stand the right wing, ultra-conservative redneck douche. I didn't care for him before but then after he pledged his love and respect for our ridiculous president and then threatened Natalie Maines of the Dixie Chicks after she spoke up against the President, I disliked him even more. I love her, I love the Dixie Chicks and I think she got the bad end of the deal there.

Anyway, I just saw that opening this weekend is a movie called "Beer for my Horses". My first thought was "OK, this must be another redneck movie with Larry the Cable Guy and Jeff Foxworthy". Now don't get me wrong. I understand being a cowboy/redneck. I grew up that way. I've just moved on, grown up, went to college and became a little more refined but I'm still related to a lot of folks (my immediate family included) that are very country. They just don't know any better and that is OK. They're happy and that is all that matters.

I look at the description for this brilliant movie called "Beer for my Horses" and I see (and I quote) "Two buddies, Rack and Lonnie, have quietly been pursuing justice as deputies in a small Southern town. But when Rack's irresistible girlfriend is kidnapped by a particularly nasty drug lord as revenge for the arrest of his brother Tito, the duo decide to defy their boss, Sheriff Landry, and chase them down... by any means necessary. Rounding up the town's most off-beat lawman--Skunk Tarver, a defiantly silent man who chooses to use a bow n' arrow instead of a gun--they take off on a rip-roaring road trip with all the makings of a rollicking comic joyride that's not afraid to go over the top."

That sounds like it's a fun little movie doesn't it? I especially like the part about the "irresistable girlfriend". She must have more than 2 teeth in her head. To top off the brilliant plot Toby Keith got top billing. He is the movie "star" in this. Beautiful. Brilliant. No really....rush right out and see this one, please. It sounds about as much fun as rinsing your eyeballs with acid, sticking a flaming pitchfork in your butthole and then pole vaulting over a mile long crocodile pit.

Oh Lindsay

OK, after watching 10 minutes of the most ridiculous show on TV, I watched an even more ridiculous movie. I had heard it was really bad, but it was on and I was curious as to how bad it really was, so I started reading my book and kind of watching the movie. What movie? Lindsay Lohan's mess - "I Know Who Killed Me". Yes - I sunk to an even lower low.I was reading my book and watching at the same time. I will admit I was somewhat intrigued at the beginning, but then it just got retarded - like incoherently retarded. I had to look it up on wikipedia to find out what exactly happened. I know, had I not been reading my book at the same time maybe I would have caught it. Honestly I went the Wikipedia route because I didn't want to subject myself to rewinding to catch what I missed. The acting was horrible and the direction was just atrocious. So, yeah - rush right out and rent this one. Luckily it was on Starz so I didn't have to pay for it......

SATC

So, I saw "Sex & the City" yesterday. I liked it a lot. It felt really long, but it was good. It was basically 6 episodes strung together. That is what I kept telling myself anyway. It had some really good scenes and moments. There were others that were not needed. I didn't see the point of Jennifer HUdson's character. I didn't feel it added anything. I understand they were trying to expand the demographic a bit, but still - it just didn't work. The end....

"Once" - The sweetest movie in the world

I watched this movie a few months ago. I had heard lots about it as it was really big on the Indie scene (and I LOVE my Indie movies). The minute the credits rolled I went to Best Buy and picked up a copy of it to own and went to iTunes and bought the soundtrack. It is seriously the sweetest movie I have ever seen. You can't watch this and not tear up. It's a very simple movie, really about a guy that works in his dad's shop repairing vaccuums and then spends some time as a street singer. He sings a lot of "I'm broken hearted and alone" songs about his ex that cheated on him and moved to London with her new man. One day this younger woman who spends her time selling flowers on the street approaches him and asks if she died. He says "No, she left me and broke my heart". She asks him what he does and he tells her he writes songs and repairs vaccuums. She tells him she has a Hoover that is broken. The next day she shows up in the middle of the street where he is singing, dragging her vaccuum behind her. They take it back to his dad's shop, but first stop by the music store because she wants to play some of his music with him. They sit down and sing the Academy Award winning "Falling Slowly". This kicks off a friendship (potential romance maybe?) between these two that is soooooo sweet. I tear up just hearing this song.

Seriously - everyone needs to see this movie.

I mean "Sex & the City". I LOVED this show when it was on TV. Erin, Melinda and I had a weekly Sunday SATC fest the last 2 or 3 seasons. Now, only three weeks until the movie is out. It is getting great reviews:

Cloverfield

So, I saw "Cloverfield" back on January 18, 2008. Opening day...I even left work early to catch a matinee of it. I loved it. I thought it was brilliantly done. It's a pretty basic movie - not much substance at all and the characters are pretty flat, but the idea of shooting a large-scale monster movie as if it had been shot on a hand-held camcorder was awesome, and it totally worked. I had been following the hype since I saw the preview when I went to waste 2 years of my life seeing "Transformers" (OK, so it was only two hours but it seriously felt like 2 years. I'm still angry that I wasted my time and money on that crap). I bought the movie ("Cloverfield") at Best Buy and watched it again this afternoon. I was amazed at how much more I saw this time. You definitely need to watch it more than once. So, yes, I highly recommend it.
