Must you?

One of my biggest pet peaves is when someone eats in my ear. Wait - that sounded like I frequently have people dining in my ear canal like at a restaurant. What I mean is when I am talking on the phone or when, say for intance, (like just now) I am at work showing someone something and they are leaning over my shoulder to look at my computer screen as they smack away on a granola bar. It grosses me out and really unnerves me. There's nothing worse than having someone smacking and crunching into your ear. Well there probably is, but right at this very moment that was the worst thing that has happened in the last few days. 

So just for future reference, if you are going to eat while I am on the phone with you, that is great, but move the mouthpiece away as you chew. And if you are going to come in to my office to have me show you something, eat before you come and lean over my shoulder, OK? Thanks!

I suck

I'm a bad blogger. I mean seriously. I haven't posted since September. Rather than do a recap of what has happened over the past four months (which hasn't been much of anything really on the personal front) I'll just start fresh, and pick up as if nothing ever happened.

Well, wait, I guess there was Hurricane Ike which was pretty eventful. I've lived here 11 years and this was the first time a hurricane hit Houston. We had Tropical Storm Allison which flooded a lot of places. I also evacuated when we thought Rita was going to hit us, but then it didn't and getting back was so much fun. Ike, though actually hit Houston. I was one of the lucky ones. I only lost power for a total of 10 hours and the most damage I sustained was to my fence where a small section came loose. (I still need to fix that). Oh, and a couple of my trees were pushed over (but since they were fairly small they were successfully put back in place). Galveston is still rebuilding. A friend of mine who lived in Galveston lost everything. It was crazy. So, yeah, that was my only really big, un-blogged about news.

Too F-ing funny!

I read today that the guy who wrote the book "100 Things to do before you Die", died at age 47 after falling and hitting his head in his own home this weekend. Now, you know me....I am a sensitive soul and don't wish death, especially accidental death, on anyone, but I do have to ask....

Did he get to do all 100 things before he died? Cuz if not, well that just sucks.

You have GOT to be kidding me...

OK - in case you don't know this - Houston has its very own multi-million dollar preacher. He's supposedly a nice guy, but I have a HUGE problem with religion making money and an even bigger problem when it is one person wallowing in all that cash because he claims to speak for the lord. Now, I am not knocking religion, nor am I knocking Christianity. I consider myself a Christian and I do have faith, I just don't have faith in most organized religions and it is for this very reason. That and the fact that a HUGE majority of "Christians" believe that they have the right to judge anyone and everyone. It seems they believe that if they show up at 9 AM on Sunday and praise and pray and shout in public and give that millionaire preacher a few more dollars for his wallet they will be saved and their actions outside of that hour in church, be they having an affair, stealing, lying or any other number of things are all forgiven because they went to church and everyone saw them there. They know best and they know right and they'll push their beliefs on you because Jesus told them they had the right to judge people because they went to church. All of this goes against Christianity, though....anyway...I totally went off on a bit of a tangent there. I digress...

What I was saying was that Joel Osteen, Houston's Million Dollar preacher or pastor or whatever the hell he is (Jesus' brother maybe?), is in the news. Well, actually his wife is. Supposedly she got into some sort of argument with a woman named Sharon Brown, a flight attendant who is suing her for "10% of her Net Worth". Her reason? She claims that she lost her religious faith and suffers from hemorrhoids because of the anxiety and trauma resulting from the incident. Wait.....what? She is claiming that Jesus' brother's wife chewed her out and made her asshole hurt and because of it she has lost her religious faith. Honey....you got bigger problems on your hands. The number one problem being a bad case of retardation. I should sue her for causing me mental anguish after I read how stupid (and obviously greedy - and lazy) she is. Don't be messing with Jesus. Or his brother - or sister-in-law.

Ummm

There is a woman I work with that talks to her "hubby" every morning between 6:45 and 7:30. I say "hubby" because from what I know they aren't oficially married. It is one of those common law things. Anywho - the conversation is basically the same every day. One thing in particular that she says at least 3 or 4 times each morning is "How's my baby boy? Sweet baby boy". Now, I have listened to this for about a year and a half and it creeps me out. I'm all for sweet talkin your honey, but you need to hear how she says this. Recently a couple of my co-workers moved to my end of the hallway. When they heard her they were under the impression she was talking to an actual toddler - maybe a grandson or something. Then I told them that she has one daughter who is not married (and is usually in her office with her when she is talking to her "baby boy" because she works 2 floors up and spends every morning and lunch with her mother). I told them it was her common law "hubby" and they couldn't believe it. She seriously says it like he is a newborn baby. It's creepy. We imagined him sitting at home in a bonnet and a shitty diaper waving his rattle at her. Eeewww....

Angelina gave birth... Who cares?

What an eventful weekend. The brilliant "Oklahoma" opened at CPH this weekend, the fed is gonna bail out Freddie and Fannie, and Angelina's cooch popped out twins. I don't care. I hate she and her hammed up "S.O.". All I read or heard about this weekend was this birth. Like she is the first person to have twins. And the fact that the first pictures of said twins will net a fortune is nauseating. I know... Give the money to Freddie and Fannie. Now, in a few weeks time, we'll be blessed with pictures of the two most annoyingly over rated people in Hollywood and their million dollar babies plastered all over TV and news stands yet again. Yay....

Caution: Wet Floor

I stopped by the convenience store last night on my way home from work to get a drink. As I walked in I saw one of the cashiers mopping the floor. I walked over to the fountain drinks to get myself a Pepsi and all of the sudden heard "Caution: Wet floor. Watch your step." Then it repeated (I'm assuming) the same phrase in Spanish. I turned to look and noticed a mop bucket with a speaker and (I'm assuming) a motion sensor on the back. This struck me as funny. First of all It was a good 5 seconds after I had walked past the mop bucket before it started talking (yes, the mop bucket had a speaker on it and was warning me about the wet floor). Had I gone down, which I have been known to do in convenience stores, I would have been warned of said wet floor after the fact. My question for today is - If I had fallen, and sued - would the talking mop bucket be called in to testify at the trial? That's what I want to know.....
